Hydrant fire pumps, also known as fire water pumps or fire booster
pumps, are the powerful heart of a fire hydrant system. Their
primary purpose is to ensure a strong and consistent water pressure
and flow to the fire hydrants (and often sprinkler systems)
throughout a building or complex, especially when the municipal
water supply alone isn't sufficient.
These pumps don't create water, but rather boost the pressure of the
existing water supply, drawing from the main municipal line, an
overhead tank, or an underground reservoir.
Main Fire Pump: The primary pump, usually
electrically driven, that provides the necessary high flow and
pressure for firefighting.
Standby Fire Pump: Often a diesel engine-driven
pump, serving as a crucial backup in case of an electrical power
failure.
